Verified rather than claimed
Does a massage chair really help?
We have compiled a list of the studies that have actually been conducted on massage chairs and have read each one ourselves.
- 14 Studies conducted on the device, each individually verified
- 5 of which one was paid for by a manufacturer; we’ll note that here
- 4 documented claims, which we also refer to as
The result is more down-to-earth than the industry's advertising. That's exactly why we've included it here.

The Body Check for Your Massage Chair.
Seven factors determine this. At each of these points, a chair might not quite meet your needs, and the product specifications don't mention any of this. The 13-page document explains what to look for when test-sitting a chair.

An average of 4.9 out of 5. Four of them are quoted verbatim.
There’s certainly a wide selection online, but I’m more of a “touch and try” kind of person. Since there’s nothing comparable in Berlin, we drove all the way to Hainichen with our employees—and we didn’t regret it. [...] We’d originally planned to spend 1.5 to 2 hours there, but in the end, it turned into almost 3 hours.

My questions were answered very kindly, and I received the best possible advice regarding my preferences in terms of price and feasibility within my budget. I highly recommend trying out the seats—it’s absolutely necessary.

A fantastic customer journey: from expert advice to seamless delivery and setup by skilled technicians, right through to my now-daily relaxation routine in the Japanese “ Ohco ” chair. Everything went perfectly.
Julia B.Heede, 2026 -
Excellent advice [...], took the time twice to show us different models. Delivery was top-notch, and the on-site training at our location was outstanding and personalized, even though we were 100 km away.

From the first phone call until the chair is in place
First, figure out if an armchair is the right choice
Give us a call before you come in. During the call, we’ll determine whether a massage chair would actually help you: We’ll ask about your height, your weight, and where you’re feeling discomfort. Sometimes the conclusion is that a massage chair isn’t the right solution. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know.
Most of the time, it works the other way around: out of 20 models, we narrow it down to 3 to 7 that fit your body. Some customers then feel they know enough and place their order right over the phone. Those who want to be sure come in for a fitting, or we continue to provide guidance via video.
Test Drive and Compare
All the chairs are set up there. You’ll sit in them one by one—chairs in various price ranges, selected based on your measurements and what you told us earlier. For each one, we’ll show you what sets it apart from the others, and then we’ll let you experience the massage for yourself in peace.
Take your time. Customers usually stay for one to two hours, and if it takes longer, well, it takes longer. What seems pleasant in the first two minutes can become too much after ten.
Deliver and Provide Training
Our own staff will bring the chair into the room where you want it. They’ll unpack it, assemble it, take the packaging with them, and show you the basic functions until you can operate the chair on your own. You’ll also receive our welcome package with cleaning and care products, along with instructions on how to use each one.
If something breaks later on, we'll bring the replacement part to you. You don't have to pack anything up, organize a pallet, or carry anything down the stairs. The chair stays right where it is.
Trade-In
Old vs. Better
Trade in your current massage chair when you make your purchase. Depending on the model and condition, you can get up to €1,500 off the price of your new one.
The promotion runs through September 30, 2026.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we're asked most often at the exhibition.
Is a massage chair even worth it?
Work out the costs based on your own schedule. A massage costs between 60 and 120 €, and it’s rare to get an appointment exactly when you need one. The massage chair is right there in your living room at 10 p.m. and starts working as soon as you turn it on. No appointments, no travel, no need to undress.
Most of it is right next to your back. Twenty minutes during which no one wants anything from you, and afterward, your shoulders sit lower than before. For many people, that’s exactly why they use the chair every day—not just when they’re feeling a twinge.
Let's be honest: It doesn't replace physical therapy—it complements it. If you get stiff twice a year, you're better off booking appointments. If you use it every day, you'll have it down after one or two years.
Where can I try out a massage chair?
At seven exhibition locations: Remshalden near Stuttgart, Leverkusen, Hainichen near Dresden, Heede, Bad Säckingen, Dreieich, and Mannheim. In Bad Säckingen and Dreieich, you can stop by without an appointment; at the other locations, we’ll schedule a time in advance so that someone will be there to assist you.
In Remshalden alone, there are 31 models—over 100 in total across all seven locations—available for you to try out for free and with no obligation. All the chairs are set up and ready to go. You sit in them one after another, we adjust the settings, and then we’ll let you experience the massage for yourself in peace.
How much does a good massage chair cost?
We don't carry anything in our showroom priced under €2,000 because we couldn't stand behind it: a 5-year warranty with on-site service isn't cost-effective for a €900 appliance—a technician's visit would cost more than the chair itself.
On top of that, there’s the question of what happens after the warranty expires. If the remote control falls on the floor or the dog chews on the leg, we’ll provide you with a replacement part—even if it’s not covered by the warranty. With a device that doesn’t have a replacement parts supply, a minor issue like that would mean you’d have to buy a new one.
You can't answer that question just by looking at the product specifications. Two armchairs with the same price can feel completely different, and you'll know which one is right for your back within the first two minutes of sitting in it.
How long does an armchair like that last?
We only purchase mechanical components that can withstand 20 minutes of use per day for 5 years. Rollers, motors, and air cushions are in operation with every use, and they determine how long a chair will last.
Residential customers receive a 5-year warranty on all recliners, including on-site service, with one exception: the OSIM uThrone comes with a 2-year warranty. If something breaks during this period, we’ll bring the replacement part to you, and the recliner stays right where it is. Without on-site service, the process is different: You’d have to keep the original packaging and the pallet, repack the unit, and place it outside your door, ready for shipping. If you live on the third floor, you’ll have to carry it down the stairs first.
Does health insurance cover a massage chair?
No. In Germany, massage chairs are not considered medical aids covered by statutory health insurance, and this is not expected to change in the foreseeable future. Health insurance covers a portion of the cost of prescribed massages at a therapist’s office, but not the cost of a massage chair for home use.
20 minutes a day, every day, with no appointments and no travel. You decide what it's worth to you. If you'd like to spread out the cost of your purchase, we offer 0% interest financing for up to 24 months.
The situation is different for companies. In those settings, an office chair is often covered under the company's wellness program.
We want you to find the model where your neighbor stops by and asks, “What’s that huge thing, and how much did it cost?” And then you say, “You can come in for a massage once a week.”Michael Roedeske · Massagesessel Welt
