It also includes studies whose results we do not agree with, as well as the four documented cases of injury. Anyone who buys a device costing several thousand euros has a right to know both sides of the story.

Who pays for the research? A large portion of the research on massage chairs is funded by manufacturers or conducted using their equipment. This is hardly surprising for a product of this kind, since public funding rarely goes toward living room furniture. But it’s something that needs to be discussed.
That is why we include information about the funding sources for each study. If nothing is listed, it means we found no evidence of funding. A study funded by the manufacturer is not automatically flawed: it is peer-reviewed just like any other, and the authors must disclose who provided the funding. Anyone who wants to interpret the data should still be aware of this.

Pain and Exhaustion Among Midwives
One group, pre- and post-measurements · 35 participants · 2 weeks
Delivery room staff used the device during breaks to relieve back and lower back pain. Pain, perceived stress, tension, and exhaustion decreased, while well-being increased. However, without a control group, it is not possible to distinguish the effect of the device from that of the breaks themselves, as the authors themselves note.

After a prolonged period of mental work, the participants sat either quietly or in a massage chair, accompanied by binaural beats. Measurements of cerebral blood flow suggest reduced mental fatigue and improved memory. With 10 participants, this is an initial indication, not definitive proof.
