Muscle Soreness After a Workout
Clinical Study: Does a Post-Workout Massage Reduce Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness? A Systematic Review.
Research:
Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is a common problem following unfamiliar or intense workouts, for which there is currently no generally accepted treatment. Massage therapy is often recommended for relief, but there is uncertainty regarding its actual effectiveness. A review analyzed seven controlled clinical trials to evaluate the effect of massage on DOMS.
Results:
Although many of the studies had methodological weaknesses and the results were inconsistent, the majority of the studies suggest that a post-workout massage can noticeably alleviate the symptoms of DOMS.
