Tapping Massage in a Massage Chair: Effects and Application

In the tapping and loosening massage, the back is tapped from the neck to the tailbone. The motion mimics what a massage therapist does with the edges of his hands when he lightly taps across the back at the end of a treatment.
What the mechanics do in this process
Unlike when kneading, the massage heads stay on their path and instead apply short, quick strokes to the back. Two heads alternate their strokes, creating a steady rhythm. The frequency can be adjusted in increments, as can the treatment area: the entire back, just the shoulders, or just the lower back.
Armchairs with 4D technology vary the speed while tapping, which makes the rhythm seem less mechanical.
How it feels
Tapping feels more superficial than kneading, but it’s more invigorating. After a tapping session, most people feel more awake than after a kneading session, which tends to make you fall asleep. If you’re trying tapping for the first time, it’s best to set the intensity to low: On the bony part of the upper back, you’ll quickly reach your limit.
What the Technology Is Good For
Tapping relieves superficial tension and stimulates blood circulation. It is ideal before physical activity or in the morning, but less so for winding down in the evening.
Tapping is not recommended on the spine, above the kidneys, or in cases of osteoporosis. The programs exclude the spine; for the rest, you should consult a doctor if you have any pre-existing conditions.
Try it for yourself
It’s hard to tell which technique suits you best. Some people find tapping comfortable and kneading too intense, while for others it’s the other way around. At our showrooms, you can try out the programs one after another: Take a test seat and give them a try.
